As a graduate student researching critical issues in Canadian national security and criminology, this project directly aligns with my professional goals. By integrating criminology with interactive arts and technology, I aim to push the boundaries of traditional criminological research. This project offers a unique opportunity to explore how technological advancements, such as virtual reality, can be used as tools to address social issues like policing biases. In doing so, it not only advances my research into law enforcement's evolving challenges but also allows me to contribute meaningfully to discussions on how technology can mitigate systemic discrimination. By bridging these two fields, I hope to set the stage for innovative research that could have far-reaching impacts on both policing practices and national security.

This project directly aligns with my interest in researching technology design and VR affordance for workplace training. I wish to design and build research-supported educational technologies for a wide range of workplace training, especially during the onboarding phase. This project explores how XR embodiment could encourage empathy and reduce implicit biases, which are critical social-emotional skills to have in a workplace. Upon completing this project, I aim to gain insights into XR being possibly implemented in workplaces, technical skills in building VR experiences in Unity, and research strategies for conducting user research for XR.
